Is this an extremely stupid person...

or an extremely brilliant ad?

I don't know. You listen and be the judge.

(Caution: spoilers below)

The Western Bacon Cheeseburger that drives this woman to call 911 is available only from Carl's Jr. Of course, she can't get it at Burger King. That the Western Burger is mentioned six times during the call makes me think that it could be a viral advertisement.

On the other hand, it does not mention Carl's Jr. or any distinct benefit of the the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, things that one might expect in even a viral ad.

Whether it is a real call or an ad, it provides a wonderful lesson for how ads could thrive in the wake of TiVo: by making consumers want to watch them. People will seek this phone call on the Internet and send it to their friends because it entertains.

The transition from 15- and 30-second spots to three minute shorts might not occur soon, but it could make ads worth watching again.
